Grief & Loss Wellness Coaching Can Help You Move Beyond the Pain

“Injury and loss of health may need to be mourned.  Sometimes it seems like the heartache will never end even after the physical pain is gone.”

Grief is the Normal & Natural Reaction to Loss

Loss may create a sense of confusion, emptiness, or other expressions of grief which can show up following a death, divorce, illness, injury, or any number of other losses. Any type of change may bring with it a sense of loss. Some examples of the ways in which grief shows up include…

  • you feel drained of energy
  • you feel alone in your pain
  • you experience emotional pain over the loss
  • you have unfinished emotional business over the loss
  • there doesn’t seem to be a future because of your loss
  • you need to take action and feel in control of your life again
  • you are protecting yourself by not expressing your feelings
  • time hasn’t healed any wounds
  • you feel like you might be going crazy

Experiencing these feelings does NOT mean you are going crazy, but you may benefit from working with a Grief and Loss Coach to help you make sense of things.  I will “walk beside you” during the process of grieving, to help you move beyond the pain.

Looking for hopeMany of us acquire negative ideas about our bodies or about our athletic or physical abilities and skills from parents, siblings, or others. Those images can affect us throughout our lives, and limit what we do relative to the physical aspects of our lives.”

Understanding Your Grief

There are over 40 losses which can produce the range of emotions we call grief. The long list includes:

  • Death of a loved one
  • Divorce or end of a relationships
  • Major financial changes
  • Loss of health
  • and so many more

Grief is normal and natural, but many of the ideas we have been taught about dealing with grief are not helpful, for example:

  • Don’t feel bad
  • Replace the loss
  • Grieve alone
  • Don’t feel bad
  • Time heals all wounds
  • Just keep busy

Just looking at the myth that “time heals” creates the idea that a person just has to wait and they will feel better. We have known people who have waited 10, 20, 30, and 40 years and still didn’t feel better. We know that they would tell you that not only had time not healed them, but that it had compounded the pain. The other five myths carry equally unhelpful messages.

When your heart is broken, your head doesn’t work right; and when your heart is broken, your spirit may not soar.”

 - Russell Friedman, Grief Recovery Institute

How Does Grief & Loss Coaching Help?

Everything you may be feeling in reaction to a loss is normal and natural. You are not broken, and you do not need to be fixed. This program consists of a series of specific action steps which are designed to help you discover and complete your undelivered emotional communications about a loss. In other words, you get to work on your unfinished business.

This is NOT Therapy!

Recovery from loss is accomplished by discovering and completing all of the undelivered communications that accrue in relationships. Completion of pain caused by loss is what allows us to move beyond the pain. It is almost impossible to move past the pain without first taking a series of actions that lead to completion. Before taking the actions to completion, it is important to look at and often dismiss some of the ideas or myths that we have tried to use with loss, but have not worked.

Grief & Loss Coaching provides the safety and action steps that help people move beyond the pain caused by loss. Together we can help you to take a look at old beliefs about loss; to look at what other losses have affected your life; and to take new actions which lead to completion of the pain attached to the recent loss, or the loss that occurred long ago.

I work with you to create a safe place that helps you to take the steps to complete the process of grief.  Together we look at some of your old beliefs about dealing with loss; look at what losses have affected your life; and learn new actions which lead to completion of the pain that is attached to a loss, whether recent or one that occurred long ago.

If you have experienced one or more losses, and you wish to move beyond the pain, this program offers you the probability of a richer and more rewarding life.

"Sue was tremendously helpful for me in recovering emotionally from injury. A lifelong athlete, I felt devastated after a knee injury which prevented me from participating in my favorite activities. Sue helped me identify the deeper issues behind this loss, which was critical for my being able to address them and begin the emotional healing process. Sue is an excellent listener and was able to gently guide and encourage me along this path."
